Jammu is a city known as the “City of Temples”, famous for its rich historical, cultural, and religious heritage. The city has been ruled by dynasties such as the Dogras and Mughals, leaving behind forts, palaces, and temples that tell stories of the past.
Historical sites are important as they connect us to our ancestors, teaching us about life, culture, architecture, bravery, and devotion.
In the study of Journalism, visiting historical sites helps students develop skills like observation, note-taking, reporting, and documentation.
Bahu Fort, located on the banks of the Tawi River, is one of the most significant historical places in Jammu. It combines military strategy, religious importance, and architectural beauty.

Location: Bahu Fort is located on a hilltop overlooking the Tawi River in Jammu city.

My Visit to Bahu Fort
During my visit to Bahu Fort, I first climbed the hilltop path, which offered a beautiful view of Tawi River and Jammu city.
Walking through the main entrance, I noticed the high walls and bastions that once protected the fort.
Inside, the courtyards and halls were spacious and reflected ancient architectural design.
The Bahu Temple inside the fort was a highlight. I observed the rituals of devotees and the architecture of the temple, including stone carvings and sanctum design.
From the top of the fort, I could see Jammu city spreading below and realized why this location was chosen for defense.
